Davis and Cherry Home Dedication

On Saturday, November 21 at 12:00 p.m., Sussex County Habitat for Humanity dedicated its second Habitat built twin home in Laurel. The two new twin homes are located at 103 and 105 Greene Avenue and became home to the Cherry and Davis families. The program included a blessing of the home and presentation of the keys to the home.

Ciara Cherry, Dionne Davis, and local Sussex County Habitat for Humanity volunteers were helped by local groups from CITI Bank, Grace United Methodist, Howard T Ennis School, Lighthouse, River Wesleyan, Seaford High School Honor Society.

Financial contributions for the Cherry and Davis families’ home came from Delaware State Housing Authority, Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, Habitat for Humanity International, HUD, Longwood Foundation, and Welfare Foundation.

Local contractors working on the Cherry and Davis families’ home made significant in-kind contributions to the completion of the home. They include: Arland Edwards, Axiom Engineering, County Line Crane, Dukes Lumber, J L Carter Drywall, Jimco Electric, New Tech Masonry, Top Notch HVAC, and Universal Forest Products. Valspar and Whirlpool also donated to the completion of the house.

Habitat for Humanity seeks families who currently reside in substandard living conditions and works along side of them to build a simple, decent, and affordable home with an interest-free mortgage. Habitat provides the potential homeowner with training designed to make them successful homeowners.

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking business and faith-based groups to volunteer, Wednesday and Saturday, on worksites in the County. To volunteer, call Liz Barron at 302-855-1153.
