About ReStore

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells reusable and surplus building materials to the public. While every ReStore is a little different, most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances.  The ReStore accepts donated goods which are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price. The proceeds help Sussex County Habitat for Humanity to fund the construction of homes for qualified families.  While promoting reuse and recycling the ReStore provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work.  Last year alone, the Habitat ReStore helped keep 132 tons of materials from being deposited into local landfills.  Habitat for Humanity's ReStores are treasure troves where good finds fund good work. Experience the life cycle of a donated item. Learn more at http://www.habitat.org/restore, and visit http://magazine.habitat.org to go along on Habitat World's ReStore road trip.

The Four Ways to Give to The ReStore

1. Donations

We gladly welcome donations to our ReStore facilities.   If dropping off items, you MUST notify the ReStore prior to drop-off.  Call (302) 855-1156 to speak to the cashier.  Moving or remodeling?  Are you having cabinets, appliances, or furniture delivered to your home, business, or organization?  Why not donate the old ones? Recycling through the ReStore will save you dumping costs and may provide a tax deduction as well.  Equally important, your donations will remain in the local community. Donors can call the ReStore and make arrangements to have items picked up as long as they are still usable. These items must be on the ground floor and guaranteed to be in proper working condition.  Donors are asked to call the store at (302) 855-1156 and press 1 when prompted to schedule an appointment. Please e-mail restore@sussexcountyhabitat.org if you have any questions.  Be sure to ask about a tax receipt!  The ReStore's inventory is dependent on donations and thus constantly changing. Shop frequently to discover incredible deals!

2. Monetary Donation

If you do not have any material items to donate but would still like to help, the ReStore accepts monetary donations of any size!

3. Pre-Demolitions

Our volunteers continue to remove cabinetry, appliances, doors, plumbing fixtures and more from houses that are scheduled for demolition. All that is harvested from theses houses are available for sale at the ReStore. These Pre-demolition projects reduce the cost of demolition for the property owner, keeps good stuff from going into the landfill, and helps raise money for ReStore. If you or someone you know is planning to remodel, build new or demolish a house, contact us today at (302) 855-1156 (press 2) for information about how the ReStore can help!

4. Volunteer

If shopping is not your thing but you'd still like to get involved, we are always looking for wonderful people to add to our stellar group of volunteers who help every day at the ReStore!  We could not exist without the help of volunteers. Please consider joining our team in an effort to benefit your community.

Volunteers can help in our ReStore with:
     • Cleaning the store
     • Donation pick-up and drop-off
     • Loading purchased items for customers
     • Preparing donations for display
     • Pricing items
     • Stocking Shelves
     • Other various tasks

Volunteers must be 16 to volunteer at the Sussex County ReStores. They must fill in a minor waiver form before volunteering, and volunteers 18 and over must fill out a regular waiver form.  Wear clothing you can get dirty, including sturdy boots or closed-in shoes. Shorts of appropriate length and material are acceptable as well. Gloves will be available for your use.  Volunteers are responsible for their own lunch.  There is a volunteer fridge for you to store your lunch, and many local businesses deliver to the ReStore.  Volunteers are needed at the ReStore Tuesday - Friday 10 am - 5 pm and Saturday 8 am to 3 pm.
